Build & Printing

The Testing Ground in Build, with numbered road pieces on the plan and Setup & printing open. Open the image to view it full size.

Choose Build in the top bar to prepare the physical build. The plan shows numbered road pieces, and the Build tools button above the canvas opens Pieces & progress, Materials & budget, and Setup & printing. Choose Draw to edit the circuit again. To save an editable file, use Circuit menu → Download circuit (.cb).

Build guide and setup

Start with Pieces & progress: choose a numbered piece on the plan or use the suggested Start with piece button to test one section before printing everything. The numbers connect each road piece to its dimensions, templates, and saved build stage.

Choose Setup & printing for full-circuit templates and Print build guide…. The printed guide includes a reference plan, piece dimensions, and shopping list. Expand Before printing to review calibration instructions and design notes.

Expand Piece coordinates and choose a piece to read its entry and exit positions, entry heading, and endpoint tile references. Coordinates start at the top-left of the available-space bounding box, with X increasing right and Y increasing down. Tile references locate endpoints, not every tile a piece crosses. Under Exports & estimates, use Download CSV → Design quantities for a spreadsheet, or expand Design quantities and measurement notes to review the measurements.

For piece dimensions, trial templates, and assembly records, see Pieces & Build Progress. For packages, waste allowances, and purchase costs, see Materials & Budget.

Overview / PDF

Under Setup & printing → Exports & estimates, Print circuit overview… opens your browser’s print dialog for a reference plan. Use it to review or share the layout; use tile templates below when you need physical building dimensions. Screen layer preferences do not hide printed road markings or elevation annotations. Terrain contours are screen-only and do not appear in printed plans or tile templates.

Plan with a grid

In Draw, open Tile grid beside the zoom controls at the bottom of the canvas. Turn on Show tile grid and choose a tile size or custom dimensions. The grid is a visual reference in Plan view; roads do not snap to its intersections. Hiding it keeps the configured size and full-size templates. The Tile grid switch under View controls the same screen visibility.

Tile templates (.zip)

Choose Build → Setup & printing. If no tile grid is enabled, click Set up full-size templates, turn on Show tile grid, and enter the tile dimensions. Use Back to printing, then Download full-size templates. With a grid already enabled, use Change tile size to adjust it before downloading. Extract the entire ZIP and open print.html in a browser. The archive includes tile images, print instructions, an assembly map, and dimensions.json for exact dimensions.

Print on US Letter in portrait at Actual size / 100%, with headers and footers off. Do not use Fit to page. One printed millimeter equals one millimeter of your RC build; do not divide the dimensions by the RC scale again. A PNG opened on its own does not reliably preserve printer scale.

Before assembly, measure both calibration bars: the horizontal bar should be 99.5–100.5 mm and the vertical bar 19.9–20.1 mm. If either is outside that range, adjust your print settings and reprint. Follow the assembly map, trim the numbered paper sections along their frames, and butt matching edges together without overlap. The assembly map itself is not to scale.

Back up the editable circuit

Templates and printed reports are build outputs. To keep an editable copy, use Circuit menu → Download circuit (.cb). See Saving & Circuits for importing files and backups with private versions.
